The Band plays on.

Dear Whalers,

Congratulations on an excellent performance at NESBA Finals last weekend!  You should all be very proud of the progress we have made so far this year.  Think back to where we started on August 19th and realize how far we have come in ten weeks: how much better we sound and how much better we look.  Also, as a band, we should take the time to be grateful for the time and effort your parents and instructors put into helping you make this season a success.  None of us could have done it alone!

And now, we must realize that the year goes on.  While competitions are over for the year, we still have eight performances to prepare for between now and the Holiday break in December.  Even though we won't be competing for trophies or scores, we still have an obligation to ourselves and to our audience to be the best we can be every time we perform.  We must continue to work hard and improve at every rehearsal and performance.

This week we have a home football game on Friday night and the Veteran's Day Parade on Monday.  These are great opportunities to use our talents to spread the Sound and Spirit of New Bedford.  Please check the attached weekly sheet for important times for these events.

Your weekly sheet for this week is included below.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Let's make this Saturday one more day when it feels great to be a Whaler!

Yours in music,
Mr. Eric Drew

P.S. There is a fundraising night at IHOP this Friday, November 8, 2013 to raise money for the New Bedford Arts Advocates and Alumni group which supports the Music, Art, Drama, and Dance in all the public schools in New Bedford.  This is an important cause that can make a difference for our band in the future. Please see below for more information.

P.P.S. The following are some items from last week's weekly email that some of you might not have seen.  I'm including them here for your reference

1) Upcoming rehearsals: Please note that Starting NEXT week, rehearsals will be shortened to 5:30pm-8:30pm since our competition season is over. Rehearsals will remain that time until after the Holiday Vacation in December. Also, there will be no more Saturday rehearsals for the remainder of the year.

2) Football Playoffs: The next two Fridays (11/8, and 11/15) will be playoff football games.  We do know that this Friday's game will be at Walsh Field (New Bedford) at 7:00pm Friday night.
The football games on Friday 11/8 and 11/15 will be mandatory games no matter whether they are home or away.  If either or both of those games are at home, then we will march in full uniform and perform pre-game as well as our field show.
A field trip form for these games is linked here.

4) Washington DC Trip Update: We DO currently have enough students signed up to go on the trip so we are moving forward.  Anyone who put in a deposit now has another $75 due for the month of October.  October payments are due by Tuesday, November 5th and then each $75 monthly payment is due by the last Tuesday of the month until the student's trip is paid in full (minus fundraising).  Any payments remaining in the month of April must be made before we leave on the trip.
